What this route costs
This is the busiest airport run in Melbourne, and most of it is business travel and hotel arrivals. It is also the shortest of the routes we publish, which is exactly why a meter is worth avoiding: a twenty minute run and a forty minute run cover the same ground at very different prices.
The two directions are priced slightly differently. A trip starting at the airport carries the $5.26 airport pickup fee, which is set by the airport and charged by every operator. Heading to the airport, it does not apply.
| Vehicle | From airport | To airport |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Taxi | $58 – $72 | $54 – $66 |
| Premium Taxi Service | $69 – $84 | $64 – $79 |
| SUV and Wagon Taxi | $76 – $92 | $71 – $87 |
| Maxi Cab | $76 – $92 | $71 – $87 |
How the trip runs
The route runs via Tullamarine Fwy/M2, covering 18.7 km in about 25 minutes when the road is clear.
In peak hour allow closer to 38 minutes. Once your price is locked in through the booking form, a slow run costs you time but not money.
This route carries about $7.29 in tolls, already inside the fare you are quoted rather than added afterwards.
- Pickup at the terminal Your driver meets you at the designated pickup area, or inside with a name sign if you add meet and greet.
- Tullamarine Fwy/M2 The bulk of the 18.7 km, on whichever route is quickest at the time.
- Arrival in Melbourne CBD Door to door, about 25 minutes after leaving the terminal.
Getting to the door in Melbourne CBD
The CBD is a grid, and the difference between the top of Collins Street and the Docklands end is a real ten minutes in traffic. Give us the street address or the hotel name rather than just "the city" and your driver takes the right approach into the grid.
Arriving late at night?
We run 24 hours with no night rate, so a midnight arrival into Melbourne CBD costs the same as a midday one. Add your flight number and we track it, however late it lands.
Which part of the city are you actually going to?
The CBD is a grid roughly a kilometre across, and the difference between the Docklands end of Collins Street and the Parliament end is a real ten minutes once you are inside it. That gap grows in the evening, when the top of the city backs up around Spring Street and the bottom does not.
Give us the street address or the hotel name rather than just the city. Your driver picks the approach that suits it, coming off the freeway at the right point instead of crossing the grid at street level with the lights against them.
The shortest run we publish, and why the meter matters most here
At 18.7 km this is the shortest of our named routes, and that is exactly why an agreed price is worth having. A clear run and a slow one cover identical ground at very different prices on a meter. The variance on a twenty minute trip is proportionally larger than on an hour long one, because the fixed part of the journey is so small.
SkyBus goes to one place, a taxi goes to yours
The airport bus runs to Southern Cross Station. If your hotel is on Collins Street with two bags, you are then getting yourself across the city from Spencer Street at the end of a flight. That last leg is the part people forget when they compare the two prices.
Events change the approach, not the price
A match at the MCG or Marvel Stadium closes streets and reroutes traffic around the eastern and western edges of the grid. Your driver works around it. Because your fare was agreed before you travelled, the detour costs you nothing.
