Which Taxis Accept Cabcharge in Melbourne?
Acceptance is not guaranteed across the industry. It depends on the operator and on the driver having a working Cabcharge terminal in the car, which is why hailing a taxi off the street can go either way. Booking ahead removes the guesswork: we accept Cabcharge on every booking and in every vehicle we run, standard taxis, silver service cars, SUVs and maxis, for Melbourne Airport, Avalon Airport, city work and regional trips.
Cabcharge is the taxi payment service run by A2B Australia. Whether your organisation has given you a FASTCARD, a Digital Pass on your phone or an eTicket, you can use it with us.
How to Pay with Cabcharge, Step by Step
- Book the trip. Use the booking form on this page. On the last step, under How would you like to pay, choose Cabcharge, and add your account or cost centre reference if your organisation uses one.
- Travel. Nothing is charged when you book and nothing is taken up front.
- Pay at the end. Tap your card, Digital Pass or eTicket on the Cabcharge terminal in the car.
- Keep the receipt. The terminal prints a customer receipt once the payment is approved, and the trip appears on your organisation’s Cabcharge account.
Cabcharge Cards, Digital Passes and eTickets
All three are paid the same way, on the Cabcharge terminal in the car at the end of the trip, and none of them changes the fare.
- FASTCARD. The card regular travellers carry on their organisation’s Cabcharge account. Tap it on the terminal, or insert it.
- Digital Pass. Sent to your phone by SMS or email and saved to the wallet on your phone. Hold the phone to the terminal until it beeps.
- eTicket. A single use ticket, often given to guests and contractors. Tap it on the terminal.
A Digital Pass or eTicket can carry a trip limit set by your organisation. If the fare is more than the limit, the difference is paid by cash or card. If the trip is being billed to a monthly account with us rather than paid on the day, say so when you book.
There is no card fee on top. Some operators add a percentage when a trip is paid by Cabcharge rather than in cash, so the number on the receipt is not the number you were quoted. We do not. The fare goes on the card, the pass or the eTicket with the tolls already in it, and if you want the amount settled before you travel, call or email us for a fixed price quote, which also makes it easy to code the trip to a project or cost centre.
Who Uses It
- Corporate travel. Staff get to the airport without carrying company cash or filing an expense claim for every trip.
- Government and public sector. Cabcharge is the standard for a lot of departmental travel, and every trip is traceable.
- NDIS participants. Travel that sits within your approved transport supports.
- TAC clients. Medical and rehabilitation appointments covered by an approved TAC claim.
- Students and new arrivals. Some universities give newly arrived international students a Cabcharge Digital Pass for the trip from the airport to their accommodation.
Using a Digital Pass From Your University or Employer
A Cabcharge Digital Pass is the modern version of the paper taxi voucher or docket. If your university or employer has sent you one, it works with us like any other Cabcharge payment: save it to the wallet on your phone, choose Cabcharge when you book, and hold the phone to the terminal at the end of the trip.
Each pass carries its own conditions, so read the email it came with. RMIT, for example, gives newly arrived international students a one off pass worth up to $100 for the trip from Melbourne Airport or Avalon Airport to their accommodation. Students travelling together to the same address can combine their passes, and any amount over the pass value is paid by cash or card. RMIT also asks students not to add the pass to the 13cabs or Silver Service booking apps, and you do not need to: show the pass to your driver and pay on the terminal in the car. Will $100 cover the trip? Look at the fare guide below. At the day rate, the airport to the CBD, Docklands or Carlton comes in under $100 even with the $5.26 airport pickup fee, while Clayton and suburbs further out cost more, so the rest is paid by cash or card.
Cabcharge Fare Guide to Melbourne Airport
The point of asking for a fixed price quote by phone or email on a Cabcharge trip is that the amount reaching your account is known before anyone travels, so it can be coded to a cost centre on the day rather than chased at the end of the month. These are current day rate estimates (9am to 5pm) to Melbourne Airport, tolls included, for the whole vehicle rather than per person. They are the same estimates each suburb’s own page shows; evening and weekend night rates are higher.

Airport pickups back to any of these areas add the $5.26 airport fee, which is set by the airport and applies to every operator. Every one of the 196 suburbs on this site has its own page with its own estimate, and the same Cabcharge terms apply to all of them.
Where Cabcharge Trips Actually Go
Most Cabcharge work we run is not a tourist trip. It is staff and patients moving between the same places week after week, so it is worth saying plainly which parts of Melbourne that covers.
- The city and the corporate core. Melbourne CBD, Docklands, Southbank and Carlton, where most departmental and head office travel starts, along with the Parkville hospital precinct and the state government offices on Treasury Place and Spring Street. Short runs to the airport, usually booked by an assistant against an account.
- The south eastern medical and university corridor. Clayton for Monash Medical Centre and the Monash Clayton campus, Box Hill for Box Hill Hospital and Deakin, and Dandenong for Dandenong Hospital. This is the heaviest Cabcharge corridor we see, a mix of hospital and campus appointments and staff travel, and the trips repeat.
- The bayside and peninsula run. St Kilda through to Frankston. Longer distances where a metered fare becomes genuinely unpredictable, which is exactly where an agreed number before travel is worth the most.
- Regional Victoria. Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and the Yarra Valley, where a Cabcharge trip is often the only practical way to reach an early flight.

Setting Up an Account
If your organisation already holds a Cabcharge account, nothing needs to be arranged with us. Book the trip and present the card, pass or eTicket to the driver.
If you book regularly for a team and would rather receive a monthly invoice than pay per trip, call us and we will set that up. It suits businesses booking several airport runs a month, and it removes the reconciliation work at the other end.
