Baby seats, child seats and boosters, fitted before we arrive
Getting to the airport with a young child is hard enough without carrying your own car seat through the terminal and then working out what to do with it at the other end. We fit the right restraint to the vehicle before your pickup, so it is installed and ready when we reach your door.
Whichever word you use for it, baby seat, child seat, car seat, capsule or booster, it is the same service and the same price. Tell us the age and rough weight of your child when you book and we will bring the correct one.
Which restraint your child needs
The right seat depends on the child rather than just the age, so these are guides and we will confirm the choice with you when you book.
Baby capsule for infants
A rear facing capsule, suitable from newborn to around six months. This is what most parents mean when they ask for an infant seat, and it is the restraint we fit most often for a first airport trip. It suits a baby who cannot yet sit up unsupported.
Convertible car seat for toddlers
Usually six months to about four years. The seat anchors to the vehicle and has its own harness, so your toddler is held properly rather than sitting under an adult seat belt that was never designed for a body that size.
Booster seat for older children
Generally four to seven years. A booster raises your child so the vehicle seat belt crosses the shoulder and hips where it should, instead of the neck and stomach.
Travelling with more than one child is fine. Tell us about each of them and we will fit two restraints and allocate a vehicle with room for both, plus your luggage.
What a child seat costs
A child seat is $40 per trip, added to your fixed fare. A second seat in the same vehicle is another $40. There is no fitting fee and no deposit, and the price does not change with the type of restraint.
It has to be requested when you book rather than on the day. The correct seat needs to be fitted to the specific vehicle allocated to your booking, and a driver who arrives without one cannot solve that at the kerb.
Melbourne Airport transfers with a car seat
Most of these bookings are airport runs, in both directions. Heading out, we fit the seat before we collect you. Coming home, the seat is already in the car when we meet you, which matters when you have just landed with a tired child and a trolley of bags.
Add your flight number when you book. We track every airport pickup at no extra cost, so if you land early or your flight is delayed, your driver works to the actual landing time and you are not charged for a delay outside your control.
Do you need a car seat in a taxi in Victoria?
Legally, no. Taxis in Victoria are exempt from the child restraint rule that applies to private cars. That is the law, and it is not the same thing as a recommendation.
A properly fitted restraint is safer for a small child than an adult seat belt, which is why we offer them rather than leaning on the exemption. Children under seven are not permitted to travel in the front seat of a taxi either way.
Travelling with a pram or stroller
Prams travel free and do not count towards your luggage allowance. A folding stroller fits comfortably in a sedan boot alongside normal cases. For a larger pram, or a pram plus several bags, mention it when you book and we will send a seven seater or a maxi instead, at no extra cost because both are priced the same as a sedan.
Booking a cab with a baby seat
Book online, or call us on 0460 306 061. Tell us the age and weight of each child, whether you need one seat or two, and whether a pram is coming. We confirm the restraint type back to you, so there is nothing to sort out on the morning of the trip.
