One vehicle, up to eleven people, one fixed price
Splitting a group across two or three separate cars to get to Melbourne Airport costs more, and it almost always means someone arrives late. A maxi taxi keeps everyone together, keeps the luggage with the people it belongs to, and gives you one price agreed before you travel.
Our maxi vehicles seat up to eleven passengers with room for luggage. They are the practical option for families travelling together, sporting groups, corporate teams heading to the same flight, and anyone moving a lot of bags.
What a maxi taxi costs
A maxi is priced the same way as every other vehicle we run: a flag fall, a rate per kilometre and the toll, all worked out on the real driving distance to the terminal. The only difference is a fixed maxi surcharge of $17.80 on top.
That surcharge does not change with distance. On a short run from Essendon it is the same $17.80 as it is on a long run from Geelong, so the further you travel the smaller it is as a share of the total. Compared with booking two separate cars, a maxi is almost always cheaper.
When to book one
- Families of five or more. Prams, car seats and checked bags all fit in one vehicle rather than being split up.
- Groups with a lot of luggage. Skis, golf clubs, instruments and oversized cases need boot space that a sedan does not have.
- Corporate teams on the same flight. Everyone arrives together, and the whole trip goes on one Cabcharge transaction rather than several.
- Early morning departures. One pickup at one address beats coordinating three drivers at 4am.
Booking ahead matters for a maxi
We have sedans available at short notice almost all the time. Maxi vehicles are a smaller part of the fleet, so they need to be allocated to your trip in advance. For an early morning flight we recommend booking the day before. For a group of eight or more, give us as much notice as you can.
Add your flight number when you book and we track it at no extra cost. If your flight lands early or runs late, your driver is already working to the new time.
