Navigating Melbourne Airport: A No-Stress Guide to the Terminals
If you’ve ever flown into or out of Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine), you know it can feel like a bit of a maze—especially if you’re rushing to catch a flight or trying to find your driver after a long trip.

1. Know Your Terminal (T1 to T4)
Melbourne Airport is split into four main terminals. The good news? They are all connected in one long building, so you can walk between them. However, T4 is a bit further away, so give yourself an extra 10 minutes if you’re heading there.
Terminal 1 (T1): Qantas. This is exclusively for Qantas domestic flights. If you’re flying Qantas to Sydney, Perth, or anywhere else in Oz, this is your spot.
Terminal 2 (T2): International. All international flights (regardless of the airline) depart from and arrive here.
Terminal 3 (T3): Virgin Australia. This is the home base for Virgin domestic flights. It’s located right in the middle of the airport precinct.
Terminal 4 (T4): Jetstar, Rex, and Link Airways. This is the “budget” terminal. It has a separate baggage claim and a slightly longer walk from the main transport hubs.
2. Arriving at Melbourne: Where do I go?
Once you land and grab your bags, the first thing you’ll want to do is get out of the terminal.
Domestic (T1, T3, T4): Baggage carousels are on the ground floor.
International (T2): You’ll head through Passport Control, grab your bags, and clear Customs.
Pro Tip: If you’ve pre-booked a taxi (like our service!), look for the “Pre-Booked Taxi” signage. For T1, T2, and T3, the pick-up is usually in the forecourt area. For T4, you’ll head across to the Level 1 Transport Hub in the T4 Car Park.
3. The Secret to a Smooth Departure
Traffic on the Tullamarine Freeway can be a nightmare, especially during the morning and afternoon peaks (7:00 AM – 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM).
Check-in Times: Aim to arrive at least 2 hours early for domestic flights and 3 hours early for international.
The T4 Walk: If you are flying Jetstar, remember that T4 has its own security screening. Once you pass security, it’s a good 5-10 minute walk to the actual gates. Don’t get caught out at the cafes!
4. Getting To & From the Airport
