The journey

What the Trip Looks Like

About 68 minutes in normal traffic, or closer to 102 minutes in peak hour.

  • Pickup in The Patch Door to door, at the time you booked. Your driver calls on arrival.
  • Monbulk Road (C404) The first leg out of The Patch.
  • Napoleon Road The main run in, covering most of the 75.7 km.
  • Melbourne Airport terminal Dropped at your terminal door, about 68 minutes after pickup.

Working Out Your Pickup Time

Start from your departure time, take off two hours for a domestic flight or three for an international one, then take off the drive. For a 9am domestic flight from The Patch you want to be at the terminal by 7am; allowing 102 minutes for morning peak traffic, book a pickup for about 5:15am.

We run 24 hours. Pickups between 5pm and 9am use the evening and overnight rate shown in the table, so an early start costs a little more than a midday one.

What the Trip from The Patch Involves

Expect 68 minutes or so from The Patch, and up to 102 if you are travelling through peak. It is 75.7 km door to terminal.

Drivers take Monbulk Road (C404), Glenfern Road and Napoleon Road for this run. That route carries a toll of about $13.32, and it is already inside the estimate rather than added at the end. We use the toll road because on a 75.7 km trip the time it saves is worth more than the charge, particularly for an early flight.

We also cover Olinda 3788, Belgrave 3160 and Mount Dandenong 3767 on the same pricing basis, so if you are picking up passengers on the way it is worth checking those pages too.

We cover all of The Patch 3792, from homes and workplaces to schools, shops and any other address in the area. Airport pickups back to the area are quoted the same way.

Where the Number Comes from

Every part of the The Patch fare is in the fare box above, from the flag fall to the toll, so you can check the sum yourself. The typical total is the sum above rounded up to the next whole dollar, and the estimate runs from 5% under it to 15% over it, the same rule for every vehicle. A different pickup street, a detour or roadworks on the day, waiting time and extras such as a baby seat are what move a fare inside that estimate.

Your pickup time sets the rate, as the table by pickup time above shows, and your estimate uses the rate for the time you choose when you book. For a fixed price, call or email us and we will confirm it before your trip. No surge, no meter, no surprises.

An SUV from The Patch is typically $196 (estimate $186 – $226): the standard fare plus a $17.80 high occupancy surcharge. It seats four, like a sedan, with room for 4 large and 3 small bags. For five or more passengers take the maxi, which seats up to eleven and carries the same $17.80 surcharge, so it is also typically $196 (estimate $186 – $226). Travelling with young children? A baby seat is $40 per seat, per trip, fitted before your driver arrives, so tell us the age and weight of each child when you book.

Coming Back to The Patch from the Airport

For the inbound trip to The Patch, add the airport's own $5.26 pickup fee to the fare above. Everything else is identical, including the 68 minute drive. Give us the flight number and we adjust to the actual landing time.

Your driver collects you from the terminal your flight lands at: Terminal 1 for Qantas domestic, Terminal 2 for international flights, Terminal 3 for Virgin Australia and Terminal 4 for Jetstar and other low cost domestic airlines. Turn your phone on once you are off the plane and your driver confirms the meeting point. Bags on a domestic flight usually take 20 to 30 minutes, and an international arrival through customs takes longer, so book for your landing time and let the flight tracking do the rest.

Meet and greet is optional and costs $35. Worth it on a long haul arrival, less so if you travel light and know the terminal.

The Patch and the Hills Roads

The Patch is in the Shire of Yarra Ranges, in the forest country of the Dandenongs. The driver comes down Kallista-Emerald Road and Monbulk Road, then works across on Glenfern Road, Napoleon Road and Wellington Road to the Monash Freeway, CityLink and the Tullamarine Freeway. The CityLink toll is in your estimate.

The Patch Primary School on Kallista-Emerald Road and Kays Picnic Ground on Monbulk Road are clear landmarks if your house is set back in the trees.

Elsewhere in the Dandenongs, Olinda 3788, Belgrave 3160, Mount Dandenong 3767 and Montrose 3765 have their own pages.

Travelled from Melbourne Eastern Suburbs to Airport with this outstanding company. From the moment of my online booking to the time of arrival at each end, the communication was clear, the customer service was top notch and the ride was smooth. Easy to find and coordinate at the airport for pick up (always my concern with pre-booking taxi service). Staff were ALL friendly and professional. Cannot recommend this company enough.
